the slut question, again

Hecklerspray is kind of the UK equivalent of Perez Hilton and I love their article today on Jordin’s outburst at the VMAs:

“if she wants to deprive herself of sex until she becomes so helplessly terrified and frustrated that she eventually compromises her ideals and marries a completely unsuitable man only to realise that they literally couldn’t be any more sexually incompatible and ends up grinding out the rest of her joyless life one day at a time trapped in union with a man she’s come to resent because he consistently fails to satisfy her physically, then that’s her choice entirely.

Because, honestly, if the alternative is Russell Brand…”

Jordin Sparks Kind Of Sorry For Calling Everyone A Slut | Hecklerspray.

Seriously, purity rings?  I mean really, one of the things that does not make sense to me these days, is the age old idea that sex is dirty.  Or wrong.  Unless its with the ‘right’ person, who has promised to love you forever in the eyes of your chosen deity.  Y’know until someone younger, richer or sexier comes along.

Now, while I completely agree that a relationship should be about more than just sex, the physical connection is definitely a large (if you’re lucky, hur hur) part of it. Plus, well, sex is fun and part of the fun is working out what you like and don’t like, and unless you get to do it with more than one person, you probably won’t be exposed to the myriad paths to doing-it-delight.

Note the probably. I’m not saying you have to sleep with a couple of football teams and/or cheerleading squads in order to figure out what works for you, but seriously, one person? Ever?! Don’t you ever want to travel overseas? Learn another language? Eat a different flavour of ice cream?

That’s what I thought! Different is good, be it two, or three hundred and seventy two. And sticking to one, just because you think that any more than that makes you a slut, whatever that means, well, that’s just plain ridiculousness.

The View: What Is A Slut? The Ladies Of The View Weigh In

September 9, 2008 at 11:45 am (sociology) ()

“I just think that nothing good can come from being ashamed of natural physical maturation and desires.”

The View: What Is A Slut? The Ladies Of The View Weigh In.

I completely agree with Tracie and have had this discussion with my boyfriend – we argued for a while back and forth; me postulating that any form of abstinence education is idealistic and ridiculous, him claiming that, well, it isn’t.  Or even if it is, does that make it wrong to teach it?

Wrong, no – confusing yes.

cute but not objectifying herself

cute but not inviting objectification

so i just (s)tumbld across Lisa Brewster whose website particularly caught my eye, as she’s integrated a bunch of cool things on her website – tumblr, flickr etc.  I especially like how her photograph isn’t the usual taken-from-above-so-you-can-see-down-my-top myspace profile style pic.

This is Lisa’s profile pic to the right here, posted alongside her bio which includes current job of Senior Systems Engineer, and a tech degree, so far, so smart.  I really like this girl already.

Unlike the ‘procrastinatrix’ Sarah McPherson.  Who says she’s ‘ probably pointless, but can’t be stopped’ and invites readers to email her ‘love letters’.

She may well be smart, literate, interesting, witty etc.
However, she takes self portraits from above.

cleavage and veg

check out the succulents on that

See here’s a photo of me that I, um, well, don’t want to post online.  Except to make a point.

And here’s the one I like instead.

I just wanted to show me using my laptop in the van on tour.  See, we had wifi!  In the van!  Then I realised that first pic was pretty, well, myspace-profile-from-above style.

So yes, more bloggers like Lisa please.
